Dr Essa Tawfiq is a clinical epidemiologist, with a MD degree from Kabul Medical Institute, an MPH degree from Tulane University, and a PhD degree from Victoria University of Wellington.
Essa has quantitative research experience with the University of Auckland where he worked for seven years on several research projects related to skin cancer, predictive modelling of breast cancer survival, risk assessment of cardiovascular disease, and assessing healthy food environments. In Australia, Essa worked at the UNSW for three years and has been involved in research on COVID-19, mask use, and health risk of bushfire smoke exposure.
As a hobby, Essa plays volleyball, and likes hiking, bushwalking, playing soccer and volleyball, and enjoys a healthy eating and lifestyle.
