Christie Yu

Position:

Consumer Panel Member

Christie Yu was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2019 at the age of 18. Living in Sydney and studying Psychology, she uses her lived experience of cancer and mobility disability to advocate for others affected by cancer. Christie engages in advocacy daily as a wheelchair user. As a consumer representative, she has contributed to research grant applications, participated in studies, reviewed cancer support services, supported youth cancer initiatives and shared her insights to improve care. She also co-facilitates an online support group, helping create safe, empowering spaces for young people (20s-40s) with blood cancer to connect, share and support one another.

Through her involvement in cancer research, Christie has been able to transform her lived experience into meaningful impact to help shape treatments, care and support that future patients deserve within the Australian healthcare system. She hopes her contributions drive more equitable, compassionate and patient-centred outcomes.
