To support GPs and patients, the Daffodil Centre, proudly supported by the Cancer Institute NSW, have developed an online decision tool (Refer4Scope) and educational module to encourage guideline appropriate assessment, triage and referral for colonoscopy services.
“Primary care practitioner involvement in colorectal cancer screening and colonoscopy referrals are crucial and 2024 data showed that many GPs in NSW were not aware of all the options for referral”
says Cancer Institute NSW’s Bowel Cancer Screening Program Manager, Christopher Horn.
Refer4Scope, an online decision tool for primary care, has been developed by leading experts in the Gastrointestinal Cancers Policy and Evaluation stream and draws from the 2023 update to the ‘Clinical Practice Guidelines for the prevention, early detection and management of colorectal cancer’.
In a few clicks, GPs can assess a patient’s appropriate referral pathway to colonoscopy based on combination of screening test outcomes, age, family history and bowel symptoms and access information on clinical guidelines and services including the Direct Access Colonoscopy services in NSW.
Refer4Scope will be launched on 12 June 2025 during our colonoscopy referral education webinar for primary care.
